Please join the MISOA Board in congratulating Dennis Hoffbeck for his participation in the NCAA Division III Women’s Final Four. Hoffbeck worked a semifinal and championship game, both as AR.

Said Hoffbeck: “It was awesome. It was such an honor to represent MISOA at such a prestigious event. I would have done it for free, it was that organized, that surreal, that amazing.”

 

Two MISOA Members Invited to Division 3 Final Four!

Please join the MISOA board in congratulating Dennis Hoffbeck and Fotis Bazakos for being selected to officiate the Division 3 Final Four in San Antonio, to be held Dec. 2-4.

2011 AGM

A few notes about this year’s AGM:

- The date is Saturday, January 14th.  It will held at the Kelly Inn in St. Paul from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM.  We will be holding elections, handing out awards, recognizing past members and retirees and enjoying ourselves.

- Elections this year are for for President, Secretary and 1 Member at Large. Please contact Troy Cohrs with your nominations.

- This year we want to have the membership nominate members for the Referee of the Year awards.  This year we will again have honorees for Referee of the Year, Most Improved Referee, AR of the Year and Rookie of the Year.  To nominate someone, please contact John Hagenstein.

- New member recruitment.  We are always looking for new members so if you know someone who is a good official and would like to join MISOA, please contact Steve Korte so that they can join us at the AGM.

- PICTURES – if you have any pictures from any of your games please pass them along to Matt Tiano so they can be added to the Year in Review video.

MISOA New Member Information

Thank you for expressing interest in officiating collegiate soccer. Experienced and qualified officials are always welcome for membership.

The process for joining MISOA is complete for this year. At this point you are setting the stage for 2012.

Listed below are the activities and timeline we recommend to insure membership for the 2012 season. Here is what is needed:

1. By March 1 – 3 letters of recommendation : 2 need to be written letters of recommendation from NISOA officials (preferably MISOA); 1 is to be a written letter of recommendation from a coach.
2. By May 1 – Complete the NISOA NCAA test with a 75% score, to be administered by MISOA Secretary.
3. By May 1 – Have an on-field assessment by an approved member of MISOA.
4. By June 1 – Applicants will be approved for membership by the MISOA Board providing steps 1-3 have been completed.
The Board will vote on new members at the May and June 2011 Board meeting.
5. By June 15 – Complete application form (linked below) & return it with payment to MISOA Secretary.
6. By June 15 – When approved for membership, and receipt of membership fees, new MISOA officials will be entered into the schedule pool for Fall assignments.
7. Annually – Pass NISOA physical and attend MISOA annual meetings.
8. New members remain on probation status for 2 years following approval.

1. The official application statement of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association.
2. NISOA membership application for shirts, fees, etc. needed for step #5 above.

The purpose of this timetable is to help insure your full participation in the fall 2012 schedule.

Offside Decisions

It has come to our attention that we are missing or incorrectly calling offsides. This is not just one or two officials, but is becoming a trend we are seeing with MISOA officials based on many coaches’ comments and clips. Here is our stance on offsides and some suggestions for improvement.

As the Chapter is in its second year of using GameOfficials for assigning purposes, usage of the old MISOA site was minimal. Therefore, we re-branded our look and made this site more information-based. We hope you like it. Please let us know your feedback.
